Aberrated optical cavities

چکیده
Optical cavities are an enabling technology of modern quantum science: From their essential role in the operation lasers to applications as flywheels atomic clocks and interaction-enhancing components optics experiments, developing a quantitative understanding mode shapes energies optical has been crucial for growth field. Nonetheless, standard treatment using paraxial quadratic fails capture influence aberrations present with high finesse, small waist, and/or many degenerate modes. In this work, we compute spectrum resonators, allowing both nonparaxial beam propagation beyond-quadratic mirrors lenses. Generalizing prior works, develop complete theory resonator aberrations, including intracavity lenses, nonplanar geometries, arbitrary mirror forms. Harnessing these tools, reconcile near absence aberration work Schine et al. [N. al., Nature (London) 534, 671 (2016)] strongly evident seemingly similar cavity Clark [L. W. 582, 41 (2020)]. We further validate our approach by comparison family lens realized laboratory, finding good agreement. This opens prospects smaller waists more

Point Spread Functions Of Aberrated Optical Systems With Annular Apertures
Annular apertures are derived for the rotationally symmetric optical systems. Shaping the point spread function in terms of the magnitude of the radius of its first dark ring in comparison to that of Airy case is one of the prime merit functions associated with super-resolved point spread functions. Our studies entail in the estimation of the radius of the first dark ring in the obtained diffra...
متن کاملAsymmetric Resonant Optical Cavities
A new and useful type of optical resonator has been proposed based on the principles of chaos [1]. The asymmetric resonant cavity (ARC) is an extension of the concept of spherical or cylindrical dielectric resonators which have high-Q ”whispering gallery” (WG) modes trapped by total internal reflection [2]. In the ARC such a cylinder or sphere is deformed substantially but in a smooth and conve...
متن کاملAxial irradiance for spherically aberrated holographic optical elements.
The effect of third-order balanced spherical aberration on the axial irradiance of holographic lenses is considered. It is shown that the number of principal maxima of axial irradiance increases for large aberrations, and the position of these points can be different from the position of the minimum aberration variance point.
متن کاملoptomechanics of deformable optical cavities
The optomechanics of deformable optical cavities has seen a recent surge of interest. Research in this field, which started about 40 years ago, was and still largely remains driven by questions relating to the physics of measurements at the quantum fundamental limit. Good examples of this are the theoretical proposals formulated in the 1990s to perform quantum nondemolition measurements of the ...
متن کاملCrescent waves in optical cavities.
We theoretically and experimentally generate stationary crescent surface solitons pinged to the boundary of a microstructured vertical cavity surface emission laser by triggering the intrinsic cavity mode as a background potential. Instead of a direct transition from linear to nonlinear cavity modes, we demonstrate the existence of symmetry-breaking crescent waves without any analogs in the lin...
